Marilyn Knows Best

"Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring." -Marilyn Monroe

Why So Serious?

If you've had as long a week as mine, you might appreciate the rest of the ads on this site. They'll give you a good laugh and remind you how advertising doesn't always have to be so serious.

This is a good reminder of how humor (in the right context, for the right situation) can be utilized for a great advertisement. After all of the thousands of advertisements we're exposed to daily, we might as well receive a little entertainment, right?

Never Settle

Recently, I've been feeling like I need to find a job right now as if I have no time to waste. Okay, the clock is ticking and a solid income sounds so nice, but if I have to search and figure out a job that leads to my future career and personal goals, then I'll figure out a way to make ends meet until then. This "got to find a job right now" mentality has got me really thinking about what it is I want in a career. This past week, I interviewed at companies that I didn't really care for and jobs that I wasn't even passionate or excited about. So, I'm posting this to put it in writing that I am not settling for just any job. If I am going to commit myself and work as hard as I plan to carve out my career, it better be doing something that I like.

Here's my "Never Settle" list for my future job:
1. Work in an environment at the forefront of technology.
2. Whether I'm working in account services for an advertising or public relations firm or sales, there needs to be face to face interaction with clients...not just cold calling. After all, we are human and call me old fashioned, but I believe there's something so important about face to face communication.
3. Passionate about the industry, the clients and my day to day tasks. Again, whether I be working in the tourism or music industry, doing advertising, public relations or search engine optimization, I want to be excited about going to work everyday.
4. In an inviting setting that encourages me to want to learn and grow and most importantly, welcoming co-workers that are encouraging of questions and working as a team toward a common goal.
5. Ask myself, do I fit in here? This sounds silly, but the best jobs I have ever had came out of the great people I was working with. People in your work setting make all the difference, and if it doesn't feel like I could fit in there then not meant to be.

I really don't think this is too much to ask....and I'm making it my personal goal to find a career that embodies these, or else I'd hate to say it, but I'd be settling and McKenzie Zieser does not settle.
